The demands in your nurse practitioner job have accelerated. Sign those charts. Ensure you chose the correct Evaluation and Management Code. Respond to the never ending patient messages. Complete the medication refills. Review the past medical documentation. Analyze the diagnostic data. There is always more and more to do.

There is lack of support from administration/managers. Offices and hospitals are short staffed in every role. Nurse practitioners have to pick up these extra duties. Coordinating referrals. Completing prior auths. Even rooming their own patients.

It’s no wonder there are burned-out nurse practitioners.

The days are constantly busy, you don’t even have time to care for yourself. Not to mention, nurse practitioners also have their own personal or family obligations. But with more duties and less support, nurse practitioners’ personal lives are negatively impacted. The work-life imbalance is unreal. There are feelings of overwhelm. Frustration. Mom guilt. Burnout.

Nurse Practitioners. Are. Broken.

If only you could get that fire, that motivation, that drive you had as a nursing student. You wish you could go back to being naïve about the hardships of healthcare. You wish you still felt empowered to care for patients. You wish you could go back to pre-COVID before the entire world turned upside down. Before you were incredibly short staffed. Before your workplace became a  toxic work environment . Before healthcare changed. Before you became a burned-out nurse practitioner.

With a rise of burned-out nurse practitioners, it’s time to be honest with yourself. It’s time to make a change in your life.

You didn’t work this hard in nurse practitioner school, while still picking up shifts as a RN, while raising a family, while working hard to get your clinical hours done, to be a burned-out nurse practitioner!

Maybe you need to learn the  time management and charting tips  to avoid bringing charts home and improve your  work-life balance . Maybe you need to have the hard talks and ask your clinic manager exactly what you need. Maybe you need to  quit your job  and take a 6 week or even 6 month break from healthcare. Maybe you need to finally put your life first. Maybe you need to set the boundaries. Maybe you need to work on your own health and  actually do the selfcare . Maybe you need to implement small, attainable action steps that will get you to where you want to be.

Whatever you need to do, I believe in you.

Even if no one else believes in you. Even if you don’t believe in yourself. I see a better, more fulfilled, happier life for you. I want you to improve your work-life balance. To be able to spend more time with your family and friends. I want you to do the work you love. I want you to feel purposeful as a nurse practitioner. I want you to take the best care of your patients while also taking care of yourself.

I want you to overcome the nurse practitioner burnout.
